Thirroul - 2 men charged over aggravated break and enters

Two men have been charged after police found a man leaving the scene of an alleged break and enter at Thirroul.

About 1.30pm Tuesday Wollongong Police officers were patrolling Station Street when they located a stolen Hyundai Getz hatchback parked in the street. Police will allege a man was seen leaving the front yard of a house in Station Street and entering the Hyundai. Officers approached the man - searching him and the car – and located property believed to be stolen. The 23-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station.

Police continued to search the street when they noticed a second man on a bicycle leaving another house. The 18-year-old man attempted to ride away from police and was arrested. Further inquiries revealed two other houses in the area had been broken into - including one with a 97-year-old woman.

Both men were charged with break and enter and aggravated break and enter. The 23-year-old man was also charged with drive conveyance taken without consent. They were refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today.
