Wollongong City Council is allowing local sports clubs to resume training on council fields as of today.

Council said in a statement that it has been working with a number of state and local sports associations to support their return to training on its outdoor sportsfields.

"Following updated advice from the NSW State Government, Council will from Monday May 25 provide access to individual clubs’ who wish to return to training across many fields across the city.

"The clubs will need to liaise with their local sports association to ensure their clubs adhere to the individual sports return to training framework to address the NSW Public Health Orders and meet physical distancing guidelines as well as comply with the strict record keeping health and hygiene practices that will be audited by the individual sports," the statement said.

Council is advising participants to contact their clubs and associations directly for updates while it said on NSW State Government advice no timeframes have been determined on a return to any sporting competitions.

Wollongong's Leisure Centres will remain closed until further notice.
