TEEN ARRESTED FOR TRAIL BIKE OFFENCES

About 7:10pm yesterday (Thursday 20 February 2020) as the Lake Illawarra Police District Trail Bike Unit were patrolling the Mt Kembla area, a small group of unregistered trail bike riders were allegedly seen riding at speed west on Cordeaux road.

Police turned and followed the group for a short time and stopped one of the riders. The rider was a 14 year old boy who wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time, investigations found that he had ridden the unregistered thumpster motorcycle from Berkeley and was heading for the Mt Kembla escarpment.

The matter is currently being dealt with under the young offenders act.

Sergeant Peter Northey from Lake Illawarra Police District stated "Police take illegal trail bike riding seriously, the community are fed up with this kind of activity".

Sergeant Northey pleaded "Our Trail Bike Unit are out in force targeting this illegal activity, the community have had enough and are demanding action. Not only does it inconvenience others, riding an unregistered motorcycle on the road and in public reserves is dangerous and illegal"
