No swimming signs have been removed from Belmore Basin today after Council was advised that water testing showed no traces of diesel in the water.
The signage had been placed around the harbour area when a diesel spill was reported from a charter boat over the weekend. The EPA, NSW Fire Brigades and the NSW Roads and Maritime Services responded to the spill, as the responsible agencies.
While Council has no regulatory authority over the Harbour, they placed signage in the area as they know it’s an area people swim and play in. Exposure to diesel fuel can cause skin irritation.
