It's ambitious but Wollongong City Council is having a crack.
Councillors voted unanimously for Council to have net zero emissions by 2030.
Greens Councillor, Mithra Cox said she was relieved and grateful that Council voted for serious action to cut emissions.
"Thank you to everyone who took to the streets, wrote emails, attended meetings and worked to make this happen.
"Now we keep campaigning for climate action at all levels of government," she said on Facebook.
The city wide target remains 2050 however that goal is set to be reviewed in hope of moving it closer to Council's 2030 mark.
