Residents in the far Shoalhaven have been given the green light to use the Princes Highway after it was reopened overnight between North Batemans Bay and Burrill Lake.
Some roads remain closed around the Currowan fire.
The Kings Highway is closed between Nelligen and Braidwood as well as Araluen Road between Braidwood and Moruya.
The Currowan fire remains out of control as it moves north towards the Morton National Park.
It has now burnt through more than 80-thousand hectares.
Crews will be challenged there and around Lake Burragorang in the Wollondilly with a severe fire danger and total fire ban in place for nine regions across New South Wales including the Illawarra/Shoalhaven and Greater Sydney.
Strong winds and high temps are expected to see an increase in activity on those fire grounds.
Wollongong can expect a top of 32 today with winds north to northwesterly 15 to 20 km/h tending north to northeasterly in the morning then shifting southerly 30 to 45 km/h in the middle of the day.
