Culburra's two-time Surfing World Champion Tyler Wright has gone agonisingly close to capping a remarkable comeback to the world tour following a 17-month lay off with injury.
Wright went down to fellow Aussie Stephanie Gilmore by 4.49-points in the final at the WSL season finale in Hawaii.
The victory was Gilmore's 5th title at Maui after progressing through the semi's with a win over newly crowned 2019 World Champion Carissa Moore.
Wright was using the event as part of her recovery process.
The second placing puts her in good stead for a full-time return to the tour next year.
Gerroa's Sally Fitzgibbons was eliminated in the quarter finals after going down to Brazil's Tatiana Weston-Webb.
