Home gutted by fire in Warrawong

A single level townhouse in Warrawong has been gutted by fire.

Fire Fighters from Warrawong, Wollongong and Dapto arrived at the Kully Way property at 7am to find it totally involved in fire.

Warrawong Station commander Mick Adams said nobody was inside the boarded up property.

"We were concerned there might have been squatters in the premises so we carried out a search with thermal imaging.

Commander Adams said the fire took about 40 minutes to extinguish.

"The fire had been bottled up and had been burning for quite some time.

"By the time we found it, it was a number of rooms on fire and the place was completely clogged up with thick black smoke," he said.

Lake Illawarra Police have set up a crime scene at the property and are now investigating what caused the blaze.
