A Warilla-Lake South Group 7 rugby league player has been banned by the Australian Sports Anti Doping Authority after returning a positive result following a game against Bomaderry last August.
Gorillas player Ian Catania tested positive for Benzoylecgonine which is the major metabolite of cocaine.
It is formed by hydrolysis of cocaine in the liver, catalysed by carboxylesterases.
It is excreted in the urine of cocaine users after processing in the liver.
ASADA didn't release the result until June 21 this year but the Country Rugby League suspended him not long after confirmation of the result.
Catania copped two-years for the offence.
He has already served more than 12 months meaning he will be free to play sport again on August 28, 2020.
