POLICE: Operation Chrome - Targeting Illawarra Roads

Day 1 Update: Police from Wollongong Police District are participating in Operation Chrome this weekend, in order to reduce road trauma and save lives on highways and rural roads in the area.

Last night (Friday, 16th August 2019) Operation Chrome police conducted 639 RBT, made 5 arrests and issued 10 infringements in the Wollongong area.

About 1.34am on Saturday, 17th August 2019 Operation Chrome police were on scene when two males were assaulted at a licensed premises in Wollongong. A 28 year old man from Wiley Park was swiftly arrested and later charged for Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm on two patrons, while a 35 year old man from Campsie was arrested and charged for Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm on one of the same patrons. A victim in this matter suffered a significant injury to his head and was taken to Wollongong Hospital by NSW Ambulance for treatment.The males were taken to Wollongong Police Station where they were both given strict bail conditions to appear before Wollongong Local Court on the 17th September 2019.

Operation Chrome police will be out again tonight (17th August 2019).
