Magpie swooping season has begun across the Illawarra, with a few attacks already reported.

A young family in Mt St Thomas has reported to Magpie Alert that they were swooped by three magpies on The Avenue, which resulted in a three year old getting attacked with bruising to his arm.

Mike in Woonona has also reported being attacked, with multiple hits to his helmet while riding behind the surf club, with the birds apparently nesting in the pine trees.

Magpies swoop during breeding season, which is between now and mid October.
