Shadow Minister for Local Government Greg Warren, has demanded the Minister for Local Government explain where the hundreds of millions of dollars collected from the waste and environment levy had been spent.

In 2018/2019, the government collected $772 million from councils as part of the levy, with only 17 per cent of that returned to councils, according to the EPA website, the levy applies to a number of local government areas including the Illawarra. Mr Warren said the Minister for Local Government owed it to councils and ratepayers to explain why the NSW Government had pocketed the $641 million and where exactly the money had been spent.
