Majority getting closer despite Labor dominance on South Coast

The Coalition is moving closer to forming a majority government with pre-poll votes in the Sydney seat of Wentworth and South Australia's Boothby set to take their number to 75, one shy of the magical 76 seats needed.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is also sweating on the Tasmanian seat of Bass where the Liberal's candidate leads by 437 votes as counting continues.

Across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven it was all Labor.

Sharon Bird won every booth in Cunningham.

Steve Jones was returned in Whitlam for a fourth term while Fiona Phillips claimed victory for Labor in Gilmore.

"So excited here to claim victory for Labor in the seat of Gilmore, this seat hasn't been held by Labor for over 23-years, it's an amazing achievement," Phillips said.
