Are Illawarra kids getting seat-belted too soon?

Experts have raised concerns today that some parents - including some in the Illawarra - may be getting their kids into seatbelts too soon.

The legal age for kids to move to a seatbelt from a booster seat in the car is 7 years of age, however specialists recommend that regardless of age, kids should be at least 145 cm tall before they 'graduate'. Medical experts are concerned that the 'sash' part of the seatbelt could ride up during sudden braking or in an accident and cause serious neck and head injuries. Authorities also recommend that seats for younger kids be correctly fitted to your car, and checked regularly to ensure they are safe.
