Lifesavers across the Illawarra's patrolled beaches paused for a minutes silence at 12.30 yesterday afternoon to honour Victorian father and son, Ross and Andrew Powell who both died trying to rescue a tourist at Port Campbell on Easter Sunday.
Bulli Surf Lifesaving club posted on Facebook.
"RIP Gents, part of our big surf life saving family, our thoughts & prayers are with the families involved & all rescue emergency services personnel.
"Wishing the 3rd lifesaver involved a speedy recovery.
"Heroes in our eyes."
Surf lifesavers are pleading with Illawarra beach-goers to only swim at patrolled beaches following a spate of drownings over the Easter long weekend.
None were in the Illawarra but as conditions stay warm and the school holidays continue, Surf Lifesaving New South Wales boss Steven Pearce said safety has to be the number one priority.
"Look for a patrolled location, it's so important that you look for these locations where we have the red and yellow flags flying and there's lifesavers on duty," Pearce said.
