Man's hand slashed in Warrawong machete attack

A 25-year old man's hand has been partially severed and his leg slashed during a violent machete attack in the Illawarra region.

A man’s hand has been partially severed after he was attacked with a machete at Warrawong this morning.

At around 4.20am Tuesday, a 25 year old man was in the rear courtyard of a property on Northcliffe Drive, when he was approached by a man wearing dark clothing and carrying a large machete. Police have been told a confrontation took place, before the armed man struck the 25 year old in the arm and legs with the machete. He then left the scene and emergency services were notified.

The injured man was taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment of a serious hand injury and a cut to the back of his legs. Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries. As investigations continue, they are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
