Wollongong's plans to mark the centenary of Armistice will include an historical Freedom Of Entry march on November 17.

Freedom of Entry dates back centuries when towns - not keen on allowing armed people into their precincts - needed to give permission for them, including troops, to enter.

Soldiers from the 4th/3rd Battalion have been given the honour and about 150 of them will turn out in all their pomp and colours to ask the Lord Mayor for his sanction, before marching on through the Wollongong CBD to the cenotaph at McCabe Park.
