Shellharbour golfer Travis Smyth has improved to a share of 57th at the halfway mark of the first stage US Tour school tournament in Texas.
Smyth shot an even par 72 which was three shots better than his opening effort of 75.
The 23-year-old had a mixed round at the Woodlands course, sinking a trio of birdies over four holes in his first nine before carding a double bogey, bogey and birdie.
"Not the best start, good finish just like Asian Q School!" Smyth said on his website.
He is three over for the tournament and 14 shots off the pace but the only thing that matters for the first year pro is finishing in the top 22 plus ties to book a ticket to the second stage of qualifying.
Smyth has had exceptional rookie year on the Asian Tour and is currently inside the top 50 on the money winners list.
The next step in his career would be a card on the Web.com Tour which is the pathway to the US PGA Tour.
