Qantas has confirmed a current and a former pilot are among 20 people injured in a vintage plane crash in South Africa earlier this week.

The pilots DOUG HAYWOOD and ROSS KELLY from Wollongong are also members of the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society based at Illawarra airport and are understood to be in a critical condition in Johannesburg Hospital.

The pair had been piloting a 64-year-old Convair 340 when it went down into farmland at PRETORIA.
