Fears more of us will become short-sighted

It's feared one in two people in the Illawarra could end up short sighted by the year 20-50 -- and increasing time spent in front of screens could be to blame.

"Myopia awareness week" is being held to alert people to an alarming increase in cases.

The Brien Holden Institute's Professor Kovin Naidoo says genetics play a role, but environmental factors are also to blame: " It's not just what we conventionally call bookwork,  as in doing homework, but also our kids are now.. we are in a digital age spending   more time on the laptop, you know our kids are spending more time indoors."
