Alleged Inmate Killer To Appear In Court

A man accused of killing an inmate will appear in Wollongong District Court today on other matters.
44-year-old Mervyn  Davidson was scheduled to be sentenced for a number of other offences in Wollongong last Thursday - the day before the alleged murder - but the matter was adjourned because he was "ill".
Davidson was previously charged with attacking a female Aldi worker with a baseball bat during a botched supermarket robbery in Albion Park Rail in January 2017.
CCTV footage shows him swinging an aluminium bat at the employee behind the checkout before being confronted by a shopper and fellow worker.
He was also charged with assaulting a police officer and intentionally choking a person with recklessness.
Meantime Davidson has been charged with the murder of ALFREDO PENGUE in Silverwater Jail on Friday.
That matter will go back to court on March 28.
