Everything appears to be going into place to keep Wollongong's popular shuttle bus free.
The government plans to make it pay-as-you-go from January, but two groups have now come out offering to make up the annual 700-thousand dollars needed to keep it free.
Wollongong council is expected to next week back a call from the Labor councillors for the council to chip-in 350-thousand dollars.. and Wollongong University has now come on board promising to make up the other 350-thousand for at least the next three years.
Both agree it's a critical asset for the city and that it's crucial it be kept free for commuters.
