Bushfire emergency Jervis Bay

Resident's in Jervis Bay on our South Coast are being warned to seek safety from a bushfire in the vicinity of 'Summercloud Bay' Road.

There are numerous crews involved, as well as 3 helicopters and the C-130 Hercules water bomber Thor. R-F-S Inspector Ben Shepherd says people near the fire have been sent an emergency alert.

The following information is from the Rural Fire Service website - 

A bush fire is burning in the area of Summercloud Bay Rd, south of Jervis Bay. The fire is out of control. The fire is moving north towards the Jervis Bay Village.

Current Situation

The fire is burning in the area of Wreck Bay Road. It is spreading in a northerly direction towards Jervis Bay Village.

If you are in the area of Jervis Bay Village, seek shelter as the fire arrives. Protect yourself from the heat of the fire.

Firefighters and aircraft are working to slow the spread of the fire. Crews are stationed in Jervis Bay Village.

Emergency Alert telephone warnings are being sent to people in the area.

The Large Air Tanker Thor has been deployed to the area. Retardant is being used to help slow the spread of the fire.

Jervis Bay Road and Wreck Bay Road are closed.

Advice

If you are in the area of Jervis Bay Village, seek shelter as the fire arrives. Protect yourself from the heat of the fire.

If you are in the area of Wreck Bay Village, you will experience smoke. Monitor conditions.

Check and follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan. If you do not have a plan, decide what you will do if the situation changes. Leaving early is your safest option.
