Wollongong City Council has expresssed it’s disappointment over damage to a grassed area within Stuart Park has been vandalised.
The deep grooves that have been made in the grassed area to the northwest of the playground have been reported to NSW Police.
Early investigations suggest a vehicle has driven laps on the grass, which has churned up the grass and left deep indentations in the ground.
“This is just wanton destruction of a space that is important to so many people in our community for a whole range of reasons,’’ Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery said.
“It’s just so disappointing to see the level of damage inflicted by some reckless and idiotic behaviour on the park.
“Someone must know something about whoever was foolish enough to do this. I encourage them to share what they know with NSW Police so that they can fully investigate this vandalism.’’
Council staff will begin to remediate the site today, Tuesday 23 May, by flattening out the grooves and filling the area with topsoil.
