The federal government has kicked the tin to the tune of $400 million, to help secure the future of the Aussie steel industry.
Bluescope’s number six blast furnace at Port Kembla, will see a major refurb and works done, with around $136.8 funding to assist with the blast furnace reline.
Port Kembla needs to keep pace with the ‘green steel’ future, said Stephen Jones, Member for Whitlam.
BlueScope’s Chief Executive Australian Steel Products, Tania Archibald said, “BlueScope greatly appreciates the CICEI grant, which supports the No.6 Blast Furnace reline, and helps secure ongoing iron and steelmaking and job security in the Illawarra.”
