Police have charged more than 550 people with more than 1160 offences during a four-day state-wide operation targeting domestic and family violence.
Operation Amarok IX ran from Wednesday 19 to Saturday 22 February 2025 and involved officers from all police area commands and police districts across NSW.
About 12.30pm on Wednesday 19 February 2025, officers from Wollongong Proactive Crime Team attended a unit on Birch Crescent, East Corrimal, for a FPO compliance check.
During a search of the home, officers seized a sawn-off rifle and Cannabis, the occupant, a 43-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, not keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm, firearm etc. found at premises – subject to prohibition order and possess prohibited drug.
The man appeared at Wollongong Local Court the same day.
He was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on Tuesday 18 March 2025.
