Road users are being reminded of upcoming traffic changes in the Northern Suburbs of Wollongong and the Wollongong CBD for the Illawarra MS Gong Ride on Sunday 5 November.
Up to 10,000 cyclists will take part in the annual charity event, with riders starting the 82-kilometre course in Tempe, or the 54-kilometre course in Engadine, ending at Lang Park in Wollongong.
Road and lane closures will be in place between 4am and 2.30pm on Lady Wakehurst Drive and Otford Road at Otford.
Sections of Bourke Street, Cliff Road and George Hanley Drive in Wollongong will be closed between 5am and 4.30pm. Sections of Hector Street, Marine Drive and Hinton Street Wollongong will remain closed until 7pm.
The speed limit on Squires Way and George Hanley Drive between Fairy Meadow and Wollongong will be reduced to 40 km/h from 7am to 2pm.
Special event clearways will be in place along key sections of the course between 4am and 4.30pm.
Motorists should exercise caution as cyclists will be sharing some roads along the course.
A reminder to motorists to leave a 1.5-metre distance between cyclists and their vehicles on roads with speed limits over 60 km/h, and a 1-metre distance on roads with speed limits 60 km/h and under.
Signage will be in place to direct motorists where detours are in place.
Motorists are reminded to plan ahead and allow additional travel time.
