Australian Legend, Penny Cook dies age 61

Legendary Australian actor Penny Cook, who you might know from ‘A Country Practice’, has died aged 61.

 

In a statement released via her management company, Cook's family said she died of cancer last night.

News of Cook’s passing came from her family and her management, saying she lost her battle with cancer last night.

Cook has worked on countless Australian TV show including the Flying Doctors and The Great Outdoors.

She first appeared on Aussie screens in the soap series The Restless Years, before she played veterinarian Vicky Dean in A Country Practice from 1981 to 1985.

In the statement, Cook's family said their "beloved partner, mother, daughter, sister and dear friend" died peacefully, surrounded by family last night.

"The family wish to express their thanks for all messages of condolence forwarded to them," the statement said.

A private cremation will be held for the actor, with a celebration of her life to be announced at a later date.

Since the news a number of her peers have taken to twitter to express their loss.
