Riding for Mental Awareness

Monday, 06 August 2012 05:41

1 in 5 people will be affected by Mental Illness in their lifetime….this is the scary statistic that made me want to get involved with The Ride for Mental Awareness yesterday. The thing with Mental Illness is that it can’t be gauged by looking at someone. Physical illnesses you can see, mental illnesses you can’t and due to this Mental Illnesses seem to get swept under the rug and aren’t really talked about.

Event organiser Don Dummett knows this well as his father took his own life due to depression. This has motivated Don to raise awareness for the cause and create a place where women &, more importantly, men can talk… and what better way to break the ice and talk about what’s on their mind than over a motorbike or two?!

Hundreds of riders rocked up at Albion Park Rail yesterday to begin the ride, among the riders was Shellharbour Lord Mayor Kellie Marsh….

Brett from Fraser Motorcycles was my chauffeur and we rode in style on a Ducati. I think I’m in love!!!…with the bike (sorry Brett). Check out our sweet ride and some of the other bikes that were among the pack:

All money raised yesterday went to The DENNY Foundation to assist individuals & families effected by Mental Illness. To donate CLICK HERE

Thanks to The North Nowra Tavern & Jamberoo Pub for getting behind the event. And a  big THANK YOU to all riders who turned up yesterday for what was a fantastic day :)

Can’t wait for next year!
