I’m a Carlton supporter and he’s a mad Richmond fan and these two teams love to hate each other. So, being true fans of the game we started sledging each others teams…back & forth, back & forth….until I suggested he put his money where his mouth is- Let’s bet on the game on the 28th. Better yet, lets go down to the game and watch the action LIVE ! Nothing beats the buzz of a live AFL game in Melbourne. We rocked up to the MCG on Saturday night to a sea of Navy & Black & Gold as tens of thousands of people made their way to the game. Everyone loves to get decked out in their team colours- jerseys, beanies, scalfs, coats, crazy hair, some people even custom make their cars after their fave teams! I was stoked when I ran into Chris Judd before the game: Wally & I got there early to soak up the atmosphere at The Bunton Bar. A great place to get a bevie, birds-eye view of the game & see other sport on the big screens (def a sport nuts heaven!): We started the night off playing nice but one smart alec comment from Wally & things started to change! We were no longer work mates, we were enemies! The game was about to get underway so we placed our bet: If Carlton won Wally would be my butler for a day on the breakfast show & if Richmond won I would be his Drive Show maid for a day. I’ve always wanted someone at my beck and call to get coffees & give me a massage while I work. This would be good….if only The Blues could win!
The buzzer sounded and it was on!!! Due to the elements it was a slippery game with the ball popping out of the players hands left right and centre. There were some questionable decisions that had the crowd pumping their fist and using some colourful language. And every time either team scored the fans would would yell, scream & cheer their hearts out. Everyone was watching with bated breath in the dying minutes of the game with Richmond leading by just a few points….Wally was watching wide-eyed yelling “sound the buzzer, sound the buzzer!” I though Richmond had it in the bag until…. Brock McLean kicked to ball to be marked, it was missed and bounced into the goal in the final seconds of the game. There’s no mistaking it, AFL supporters are so passionate about the game it’s like a religion. And nothing beats being there live amongst the throng of people. Definitely worth the trip! I’m already planning my next live AFL experience and also planning to enjoy a morning of relaxation with Wally my new butler :) Check out the video here: Dim lights Embed Embed this video on your site |
