Illawarra paramedics pushed to the limit

Illawarra residents are being encouraged to support paramedics, as they fight to improve conditions in emergency units.

It follows a decision by one paramedic to ease the pressure on Wollongong's emergency unit, by re-directing ambulances elsewhere.

He's since been reprimanded for operating outside his responsibilities.

It's left his Illawarra colleagues angry at his treatment and South Coast Labor Council Secretary, Arthur Rorris, says it's time they received more support.

Illawarra Families are doing it tough

Just how tough many Illawarra families are doing it is being highlighted today. A national Salvation Army study has found more than half of its clients are in a worse financial situation than a year ago - with a quarter going without a substantial meal each day to ensure their children are fed. Jamberoo farmer recovers in hospital

A farmer is recovering in hospital after being injured when his tractor rolled yesterday on a property at Jamberoo. He suffered serious after his tractor tipped and rolled up to 100 metres down a hill. The 57-year-old was operating the machine on Clover Hill Road when the incident happened.. Paramedics, SES, the Rural Fire Service and NSW Police responded to the scene with two ambulances and a helicopter, but the man remained trapped for 90 minutes due to slippery and difficult conditions.
