Carbon tax to hit tuck-shops |

Some Sydney school canteens are warning they may have to increase their prices by ten-percent to pay for their power bills. It comes as they start to receive their first bills since the introduction of the carbon tax. News Limited reports one power bill for a Sydney school showed a carbon charge of almost 450-dollars listed separately on an account, totaling more than six-thousand dollars. |

Operation Unification Claiming Illegal Firearms
New South Wales Police have joined their interstate counterparts in launching Operation Unification, a unique hotline to allow authorities to further target and seize illegal firearms. Police will conduct the operation for two weeks from today, Friday May 24 until Friday June 7. Anyone with information about the possession, supply or whereabouts of illegal firearms is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Hazel Hawke Dies at 83
HAZEL Hawke has been remembered as the Eleanor Roosevelt of Australian politics, a first lady "free of any airs and graces" and blessed with guts, compassion and fierce intelligence. Tributes from across the political divide flowed in last night for the quintessentially Australian first wife of Bob Hawke, who died yesterday, surrounded by family members.
